What services are offered by the SWAB-Rx study?
Pharmacists at participating pharmacies are offering diagnostic self-tests and treatment assessments for asymptomatic chlamydia and gonorrhea infections as part of a clinical research study
(ClinicalTrials.gov NCT06234943). If you have positive results, the pharmacist can assess you for treatment and prescribe antibiotics if appropriate.
You may be eligible to participate if you are 18 years or older, have a valid Nova Scotia health card, and understand English.
Testing
Participants being tested through the SWAB-Rx study can self-collect four types of samples: rectal swab, vaginal/front hole swab, throat swab, and urine test.
A participating pharmacist will privately ask you questions to determine which tests are right for you.
Participants will self-collect samples on-site at the pharmacy, and the pharmacist will provide participants with their results, when available.
Treatment
If you have been diagnosed with a chlamydia or gonorrhea infection through the SWAB-Rx study or other means, you can access treatment as a research participant.
The study pharmacist will assess you and prescribe an antibiotic to treat your infection.
The pharmacist will then follow up if needed to ensure you receive appropriate care through the treatment process.
