What is SWAB-Rx?

Chlamydia and gonorrhea are the most common sexually transmitted infections in Canada. The majority of chlamydia infections, and many gonorrhea infections, do not show symptoms. This means that without testing, many people are not diagnosed with chlamydia or gonorrhea and as a result may not receive effective care and may unintentionally pass the infection to sexual partners.

Modeled after other studies, SWAB-Rx aims to find out how people feel about getting a self-test for chlamydia and gonorrhea from a pharmacist, and how they feel about getting treatment for chlamydia and gonorrhea from a pharmacist.

SWAB-Rx is a collaborative study between Nova Scotia Health and Dalhousie University and is led by co-principal investigators Dr. Tasha Ramsey (PharmD) and Dr. Kyle Wilby (PharmD/PhD). SWAB-Rx is funded by the Canadian Institute of Health Research (Grant #190793) and has been approved by the Nova Scotia Health Research Ethics Board (REB # 1030357).
